Stream Global Services, a global outsourcing company, announced on Monday, March 14, thatStream Global Services it would be laying off 246 employees at its Sergeant Bluff, Iowa call center and notified its employees that same day.  Stream has 30,000 employees in 22 countries worldwide.

It currently has about 843 employees at this location, although after the layoffs, that number will be reduced by almost 30%.  The employees will have until May 15 to find new work, as the layoffs don’t go into effect until then, and there will be no severance pay.  After the workers are laid off, no sick pay, floating holidays, or accrued vacation will be paid out to them.

According to the Vice President of HR Operations for Stream’s American branch, Darla Bond, “While it is unfortunate to have to eliminate these positions at our Sergeant Bluff service center, we hope to replace those positions as we win new business.”

Stream Global Services said that they also plan on giving job search help and encouraged its workers to look for work in other Stream positions.  Community leaders are going to work with the company in hopes of attracting a new client to take advantage of these soon to be laid off workers before they are out of work on May 15.
