Fort Bragg and its surrounding communities are preparing for about 30,000 new residents as part of a two command post move from Fort McPherson in Georgia to Fort Bragg.  The move will also bring about 2,900 high paying jobs to the area.  Although most of those continue to be filled by the relocated employees, it is estimated that about 600 civilian employees won’t make the move, and will be filled either locally or nationally by qualified civilians.

Army personnel make up about half of the relocating employees, and earn $93,000 on average each year.  The other half of the employees are held by civilian federal employees and their average salary is $73,000, according to Fort Bragg Regional Alliance director, Greg Taylor.

Fort Bragg Regional Alliance is made up of 11 counties in North Carolina that work together to address education, environment, and other concerns in each community contained within the counties.

This relocation was part of the 2006 Base Realignment and Closure Act, and was ordered by Congress.
