If you are one of the 13.5 million people that are currently unemployed in the U.S., the good news is that the U.S. Labor Department reports that there are now over 3 million available jobs in the United States.  While the job market and economy still have a long way to go in their recovery, its good to see that the past few months have seen the job market improve, with openings increasing by over 500,000 in the last two months alone.

With the unemployment rate also steadily dropping each month, the prospects for employment seem to be getting better all the time.  Another good report from February shows that 3.9 million people were newly hired by employers, which was an increase of 138,000 from January.

Another interesting statistic to note is that 1.9 million people quit their jobs in February, an increase of more than 250,000 from January, which is actually a good sign for the job market.  Why would people quitting their jobs be a good sign?  The reason is that people are usually more likely to leave the job they’re in if they have found a better position elsewhere or are confident that they can find a better one.
