In a slumping economy, more and more people are turning to dollar stores to buy what they need on a day to day basis to get more “bang for their buck”.

This is good news for dollar stores everywhere, and especially for the big two nationwide dollar stores, Dollar General and Family Dollar, which are planning on opening more than 900 new stores this year.  With these new store openings, more than 9,000 new jobs will be created across the nation.

Said Janet Wilson, Family Dollar’s divisional vice president for corporate human resources, “The pace of new store openings is ramping up. We have more aggressive goals in 2012 than we have for 2011.”

There are currently about 7,000 Family Dollar stores and 9,000 Dollar General stores across the nation, and those numbers will continue to go up each year as consumers continue to look for the best value they can.  Who knows, you might just find a new dollar store in your neighborhood.
