This article is about the present condition of a indebted county named Jefferson county. The county is in debt of about $3.2 billion and is preparing to layoff nearly 1000 workers as a part of a $14.5 million budget reduction. This layoff is because of the loss of about one-third of the county’s operating revenue due to the supreme court ruling a jobs tax as unconstitutional. The county is also recovering from the loss due to a tornado in April. County is expecting a bill that would give the county the power to raise as much as $50 million a year.
