Sheriff’s layoffs delayed for two months

The Mendocino County Board of Supervisors responded to 7 layoffs proposed by Sheriff Tom Allman and voted 3-2, to stay the layoffs for 2 months. The Board will again consider the layoffs after two months, the County Counsel Nadel informed. Sheriff’s contention was that, as an elected official with constitutional responsibility, he had the authority to decide budget cuts and which jobs he should retain.
