Alabama Government to Cut 1,100 Positions

Alabama state government has decided to let-go 1,100 of its employees due to budget cuts and lack of federal stimulus funding. The state Department of Mental Health is looking for a total of 582 layoffs, of which 400 are from Partlow Hospital in Tuscaloosa, in view of its closure in November. The state Department of Agriculture and Industries will lose 89 of its employees due to budget cuts. Alabama’s trial courts have decided to let-go 252 employees. Few of those who are fired have some hope, as they will be hired by other departments.
