Southwest Michigan Sees Job Losses In Schools and Auto Firms

The number of jobless people in Southwest Michigan has increased due to the layoffs of support staffs in local school districts and temporary layoffs in automobile industry. The school staff were laid off for the summer and layoffs in the automobile industry were because of plant retooling. The unemployment rate has increased in 11 of 12 regional counties in Southwest Michigan by an average of 0.5 percent. Cass County suffered the most by an increase of 1% and the only county with a steady rate was Allegan.
