1,000 Layoffs Outlined in Manago’s Budget for Nassau

Ed Manago, Nassau County executive, made serious cuts in order to balance the budget. The cuts are across the board affecting every department but not equally. The exact nature and details of the cuts will be announced later. However it is known that over 1,000 jobs will be cut. This includes policemen. Two police precincts will be closed as well as two museums. A police representatives opposed the plan. County employees will begin to pay 25% of their health care. Previous these contributed nothing to their health plans. The political opposition has attacked this budget.
