With the unemployment rate at an all time high, many wonder what to do to find a job. While many generic positions fill up quickly, some specialised occupations have little to no competition for employment. If you cannot find a position in your field, consider the cost of making the switch into one of these careers that are in high demand.

Professional Cook
Basic food service positions quickly fill up during the hiring processes. However, many restaurants lack a key ingredient: a skilled culinary professional. Consequently, this results in cooks without culinary degrees taking the lead in the kitchen. Any new talent that comes into the field often gets recruited into the hottest restaurant in town, while non-franchised restaurants lose out. This type of position is fast paced, demanding and requires good skills. Many restaurants constantly look for good people, but do not have enough qualified candidates to fill all the positions.

Registered Nurse
With the vast number of aging Americans, the health care industry has a high demand for workers. In the midst of the United States’ high unemployment rate, it can take months before a position for a registered nurse is filled. Hospitals need nurses that have been registered in the practicing state, and have the skills to work under strict rules independently.

Wind Technician
Living a green life requires those who know how to enable this lifestyle. Part of this means understanding how to maintain and repair wind turbines. Not much experience or education is required for this type of job; typically only three years electrical experience or a relative associates degree. However, while the educational and experience demands are minimal, this position poses different stresses on workers. Technicians must be willing to climb towers that soar 300 feet in the air, work in all type of weather conditions in remote environments, and have the ability to lift 50 pounds.

Web Developer
In the age of the internet, if you know how to build a website or develop mobile apps, you will probably not have a hard time finding a job. Web developers must be proficient in an array of capacities, including having the ability to develop a website from the ground up, have a keen eye for design, integrate social media, and build social media and mobile apps.

Accountant
Financial services continue to grow in complexity. As the financial world becomes more difficult, accountants have grown in demand. While many business schools send through graduates with accounting degrees each year, many firms have specific qualifications for applicants, making it difficult to fill positions. Basic requirements for these types of roles include being a Certified Public Accountant and having several years of specialized experience. At times, these positions can take up to a year to find a suitable employee.
