The DuBois City Plannng Commission made a recommendation that there be an advertisements on the two amendments made for the zoning ordinance in the city. The recommendation was first announced at the regular council meeting by Solicitor Toni Cherry.

Cherry made an announcement stating that the commission had recommended advertising two separate amendments, one on the commercial highway zone of the city extending its route. These highway zone changes were already considered in the past by the council but the changes had been returned back to the commission to be considered for a longer period of time.

John Suplizio, the City Manager, made a report about a fishy smell that has made headlines on the news in DuBois. He has made claims that the employees of public works found out the source of this fishy smell and says that the smell is coming from the sewer lines. Suplizio says that the smell is not coming from the water in the city. He continued to stress the point that the water within the city is definitely fine and it is not contaminated at all. There are many city officials who are working to find out what is causing the smell and how they can fix it. Suplizio believes that something has probably been thrown into the sewer system, causing such a putrid scent.

The City Manager has also advised everyone to clean up their own property. He says that when the city contacted several people about cleaning their own properties and getting rid of any useless junk cars, many residents were actually trying to rat out other residents. He said that this should not be the case, where residents are concerned with other residents and are simply pointing figures. He would like everyone to take of their own property to make sure that it is as clean as possible and stop worrying so much about the neighbors and their property.

Suplizio has also said that there are many people who have actually been calling in and complimenting the good work of the city’s water department. Because many plumbers in the area have been quick to detect leakage, many of the residents in the area have saved thousands of dollars because less damage was caused during the leakage. Residents are thankful for having a water department with such a quick response to leakage problems and problems involving their water systems.

In the meantime, the Fire Chief, John Kelsey, also offered a report for the year of 2011 from the Dubois City Fire Department. According to the report, the department had to respond to 42 automatic alarms, 28 rescue calls, 19 odor investigations, and 59 calls for the chief, amongst various other calls for assistance.
