Many people who are seeking employment in the Sioux City area are finding it to be quite a challenge, especially when it comes to finding the right job, the job that they have been searching for. It has been hard for many people to find employment, especially during and after the recession, which left the economy in the United States crippled. However, many people in Sioux City say the problem is not being able to find employment. Instead, they are saying the problem is finding a good job, one that is actually worth their time.

Sixty-year old Randee Septon, who lives in Sioux City, has been seeking an administrative position for three months. She says that the position she is searching for is very competitive, with many people competing for the same exact position. In most cases, there are just a few positions available, yet there will be 100 applicants applying for those few positions. This means that the vast majority of those applicants will, unfortunately, not receive the employment that they have been hoping to get.

Septon says that many people are overqualified for the positions that they have been applying for. There are also shortages of jobs available which causes a challenge amongst applicants who are seeking employment. Septon says the Sioux City does not have the jobs available for all of the job seekers.

Many of the employment agencies agree with what Septon has to say, saying that there are some jobs available but they are not always the jobs that people have been hoping for. While a job is a job, many people are overqualified for the available jobs and desire something more, so that they will be able to work to their fullest potential.

The co-director of Iowa WORKS Greater Siouxland, Diane Neris, has said that the agency currently has about 848 available positions open, all of which are located in Sioux City and the surrounding areas. Neri says that while there are jobs available, those jobs may not be paying as much as people want and need to survive. Some of these jobs simply do not allow professional to showcase their talents because they are not the best quality jobs. This would leave many people to deal with underemployment issues. Underemployment refers to people who are currently employed but are not satisfied with the work they are doing or the amount of hours or salary.

Neri believes that if people want to find the right job, they need to look for specific companies, instead of looking for particular positions. By looking for certain companies, the right position may actually come along. Sometimes jobseekers will have to settle for something a little less than they normal would in order to get their feet in the door.
