The city of Wheeling went over a year without having a human resources director. However, this has finally changed, as a new human resource director has been hired to fill the position. The woman who will serve as the human resources director is Leslie Waechter. The former human resources director, Dave Denham, left his position towards the end of 2010. Meanwhile, the position, along with his office, which was located on the third floor, remained unfilled. That is, until Waechter was hired on January 1st to take over as the human resources director.

Leslie Waechter is excited about her new position. She also gave the Administrative Assistant, Lisa Gruber, and the Employee Benefits Analayst, Amber Wolfe, credit for holding down the fort during the period of time in which there was no human resources director. Even though there was a delay when it came to hiring a human resources director, Waechter said that there were absolutely no problems caused by the delay, which was definitely a good sign.

Waechter will receive a paid salary of $57,000 annually. She says that she is already working on different ways in which she can improve the department she is working for. She is planning on requesting money from the 2012-2013 budgets, as a means of helping to update the city and its technological systems, especially after she found out that the technological systems were not as up to speed as they should be and need to be. She also said that right now, the system is using floppy disks to store information, which is definitely an outdate system. Waechter is not sure how much money she will be requesting from the budget but she is looking into all different types of options.

With her new position, she will be responsible for handling the benefits of employees, along with pension information. She will also be working to resolve issues that may arise when it comes to personnel and staff members.

Leslie Waechter is from Bellevue, which is located in Ohio. She went to the Norwalk St. Paul’s Catholic School and stayed within the area while earning a business degree from Tiffin University. Tiffin University is located in Tiffin, Ohio. While a student at Tiffin University, Waechter met her soon-to-be husband, Kris Waecther. The couple got married and has been married to on another for approximately five years. Once she completed college, she worked for a plastics company, A. Schulman, which is located in Akron, Ohio.

Now that she is working in a different position, Waechter says that the scenery is very beautiful. She also feels the people of Wheeling are quite friendly. She enjoys the new place she calls home and is even working as the coach of a volleyball team at the local high school.
