Two positions in Lackawanna County were filled just last week. Those positions include the human resources director position and the communications director position. Joseph A. Refice was hired to operate as the human resources director while Joseph A. D’Arienzo was hired as the communications director for the county.

The commissioners of the county, Jim Wansacz and Corey O’Brien, both agreed that Refice and D’Arienzo were perfect for their positions, having plenty of knowledge and experience when it came down to their positions. Wansacz says that for the positions, there were many excellent candidates available and the two that were chosen were the two candidates who just happened to stand out amongst the best candidates.

Refice will be replacing Nancy Pearson, the former human resources director who resigned at some point in November because she chose to take a job within the private sector instead. Refice began his job on Monday.

D’Arienzon, on the other hand, is replacing Lynne Shedlock who departed from her position at the beginning of February. He will not start working with his new position until the 6th of March but in the meantime, he will be working to assist the administration.

Refice is responsible for ensuring that the human resource policies are followed while also overseeing such policies and programs from thousands of workers within the county. He is prepared for this job as he has spent a large part of his career working within the government services on both state and local levels. He even worked with the Department of Revenue for over 15 years. He has been in administration for such a long time which has given him the experience he needs to take on this position. He was excited to receive the news that he was chosen for the position. He hopes that he will be able to use his experience to do something positive for the county. O’Brien is very pleased to have Refice as part of the team.

D’Arienzo has been working as the development coordinator for the Goodwill Industries of Northeastern Pennsylvania for the past five years. He has worked with both public relations and community relations and because of that, he has quite a bit of experience. D’Arienzo is excited about this new opportunity to sever the people of Lackawanna County. He says that he is excited to use the experience he has to help the county. He is ready to take on the job he has been chosen for.

Refice will be receiving a salary of $56,000 while D’Arienzo will be receiving a salary of $48,000.  Both of the new employees will be receiving less than the former employees who were working the same positions before departing and resigning.
