The Hershey Company, which is headquartered in Hershey, Pennsylvania, is welcoming veterans home the right way. With an increasing number of troops headed home to return back to civilian life, the number of veterans struggling to find employment is increasing as well. In fact, veterans are dealing with a much higher unemployment rate than the average population, likely because it can be difficult to return back to civilian life. The Hershey Company has felt inspired to help these veterans find employment, especially considering all that they have done for the country. The company has decided to launch a new group, the Veteran’s Business Resource Group, which would help veterans and the organizations that have been created to help veterans.

The way that the new group will work is to help veterans in all ways possible, which includes teaching employees about the skills as well as the experience that veterans can bring to the workplace. It is also important to get in contact with the different veterans groups as a way of providing support and helping all the veterans to transition back into the civilian lifestyle, which is not always the easiest of tasks. The group will also work on increasing communication between companies and veterans, so that more veterans can get hired to work at different companies. Mentorship programs will also be made available, where veterans who have recently been hired can get in contact with other veterans who have already made the transition back to civilian life in a successful manner.

The new efforts being made by the Hershey Company only seems to add onto the program the company already has, which is the Military Talent Program. That particular program launched back in 2011 and is a program that helps to hire veterans who are recently returning home from active duty. Along with the program, the company has held different sorts of job fairs and will continue to do so, in hopes that more veterans will find the employment they have been seeking.

The Senior Vice President of Global Operations for The Hershey Company, Terry O’Day, says that there are a lot of opportunities available to veterans and they need to be utilized, which is generally what the company’s programs are all about. O’Day points out that veterans are often great leaders and are committed to the work they do, which makes them great candidates for a number of different positions. Along with its commitment to helping veterans find work, The Hershey Company is known for hiring veterans as well. In fact, there are over 500 veterans who currently work for the company right now. The company also sent out care packages to military members while they were on duty, which shows that the company is devoted to supporting veterans and military members.
