Vivian Day, known for being the Building Inspection Department Chief for the city of San Francisco, has recently decided to take a step down. And, while she is stepping down, she will not receive a single cent less in her salary than what she was receiving as the chief. Some controversy was caused a few weeks ago, when Vivian Day decided to take a leave of absence because she was dealing with stress. Day claims that the stress was caused by people who were trying to get her out of the position of Chief. She has now chosen to step down and will take on a different position, although she will still be working for Building Inspection Department and will continue to earn $206,000 per year.

The new job will require Day to be a special assistance for the department and as the assistant, she will be responsible for working on a number of different projects and will also help her replacement, whoever takes over as Chief, so that they can get situated within the new position and begin learning and understanding everything there is to know as the Chief for the department. While Day did announce her decision to step down and take on a different position in an e-mail message to staff members and employees, she has refused to make any statements about what happened and what really caused the stress, as to who was trying to get her out of the position and what they were doing to cause her so much frustration and stress. The Mayor, Ed Lee, and his office have not made many comments about the changes either.

In the meantime, a spokesperson for the Department of Human Resources, Jennifer Johnston, said that there are many times were employees are able to stay on and take on different positions while still receiving their same salary, instead of being paid less than what they originally received. Prior to taking a leave of absence, Day messaged the commission President, Angus McCarthy, as well as the boss of human resources, Micki Callahan, stating that the Mayor has been trying to get her out of her position, along with McCarthy as well. She also said that the department is plagued by the influence of politics and claimed to have been stressed out by such antics.

Debra Walker, who happens to be a member of the Building Inspection Commission, stated that Day was always able to run the department in a proper and efficient manner and felt as though she should not have been pushed out of her position. Although she has taken on another position and will no longer be the Chief for the department, Day will receive a surely nice salary.
