The Southeast Volusia Advertising Authority’s opening for a new executive director has drawn more than 70 applicants. The county, which oversees the ad authority, has already narrowed that preliminary field of candidates to 49 who meet the minimum requirements — which includes at least five years of marketing experience. Three former executive directors of the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce — Andrew Cripps, Nicholas “Mike” Del Ninno and John Connors — also have thrown their hats in the ring. County staffers have taken over day-to-day operations of the SVAA and New Smyrna Beach Visitors Center, which the ad authority operates, until a new executive director can be hired.Dave Byron said-The county would have had to choose finalists in a public setting and even if Coats hadn’t applied the county would be in a tough position.
