Millions of Jobs Must Be Created

With jobs being created, the government can improve and citizens will be able to benefit as well, able to find employment that they have been actively seeking for quite some time. However, certain types of jobs have more of an impact than other jobs, especially when it comes to helping the different society’s progress. This information was first provided in a report from the World Bank earlier on in the week. At this point in time, there are so many different countries in areas all around that are struggling with high levels of unemployment, including the United States and Europe too. Youth unemployment levels are higher than they have ever been in many different countries. It is for that reason that the World Bank has warned that the growth of the economy in itself will not be able to create enough jobs to improve the lives of individuals living in these areas.

The director of the World Development Report, which is released by the World Bank each year, Martin Rama, has said, “It is not just the number of jobs, it is also what people do.” According to Rama, there is a major focus on the way in which employment has an impact on the different societies, especially based on numerous surveys that have been conducted as well as different censuses. To make a point, Rama spoke about Mozambique, an area in Africa, stating that the boom of commodities has helped establish growth rates but that a total of 80 percent of the citizens in the country are currently working in the agriculture department and is still living in poverty.

It is believed that governments should put a major focus on helping to increase employment within specific sectors and industries so that there will be a more positive impact on the society in these countries. The chief economist for World Bank, Kaushik Basu, has said, “Jobs themselves are a driver of development.” According to the World Bank, job growth depends on a number of different issues that each individual country is facing at the time. They also believe that the policies that are put in place for labor tactics are not always the best. With unemployment becoming such a huge concern in countries all around the world, the World Bank has provided estimates that there are around 621 million youth around the world who are unemployed and are not seeking employment while there are 200 million jobless individuals around the world as well. Basu has said, “The scope for a global cooperation is there in virtually every economic field.”
