Research In Motion to Make More Job Cuts

If you love to keep up on all of the newest events in the world of mobile devices then the odds are good that you know the name Research In Motion. If you are not a technophile then the name is most likely unfamiliar. For those of you who are familiar with the company here is a look at how the company has chosen to describes itself, “Research In Motion (RIM), a global leader in wireless innovation, revolutionized the mobile industry with the introduction of the BlackBerry® solution in 1999. Today, BlackBerry products and services are used by millions of customers around the world to stay connected to the people and content that matter most throughout their day. Founded in 1984 and based in Waterloo, Ontario, RIM operates offices in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America.”

Sadly the company is getting ready to cut back on about 200 jobs. The company is making the job cuts from Irving, where the company has its headquarters. For the time being the company has not said much about the job cuts, such as which positions are taking the brunt of the cuts or what kind of severance benefits, if any, the company plans to give to their workers.

Of course this is not the first time that we have talked about cuts to the flagging company. For those of you who missed out on our earlier coverage here is an excerpt that will get you up to speed in no time at all, “Well, it looks like the time is coming for the workers of Research in Motion to begin the long process of looking for new jobs, as the company has begun its round of layoffs. The company has not, at the time of the writing of this piece, released a statement about the layoffs, so there are a lot of things left up in the air. The company has not said what kind of benefits, if any, they intend to give to the workers of the company who are being given the boot en mass. They have also not stated which areas are going to be the most deeply effected by the cuts that are coming down now.”
The company, in its most recent release chose to talk about its certifications instead of the job cuts that they are making, “Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM, TSX: RIM) today announced that the BlackBerry® 10 platform is now FIPS 140-2 certified. The certification will enable government agencies to deploy BlackBerry® 10 smartphones and BlackBerry® Enterprise Service 10, RIM’s new mobile enterprise management solution, from the day of launch. This is the first time BlackBerry products have been FIPS certified ahead of launch. FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard) certification provides confidence to security-conscious organizations, including U.S. and Canadian government agencies, companies in regulated industries and other organizations dealing with sensitive information, that data stored on smartphones running BlackBerry 10 can be properly secured and encrypted.”
