Budget crisis at Orleans Juvenile Court results in layoffs
Post Views 0Mayor Mitch Landrieu of New Orleans is cutting the budget for Juvenile and Criminal Court by 30%. 31 juvenile court employees would have been laid off, but the Chief Judge of Juvenile Court has arranged to use reserve funds to keep them on as contractors. They will have life and dental insurance; however, it is still in question whether they will have health insurance. There is not enough money to continue doing this into 2014. The cuts are based on figures from the Mayor?s accounting office claiming that the workload of Juvenile Court has declined.
