Bombardier’s new CSeries jet liner, a narrow-bodied craft which the company has flew for its first test flight, has raised some concerns. Some of the concerns are economical, such as how much the plane cost them in development. At a press conference, it was reported that the plane cost $3.9 billion to develop, yet after the conference, it was stated that the official estimate was still $3.4 billion. Therefore, there is conflicting information on the development costs of the plane, leading some to suspect the company using this prototype as a way to cook the books or otherwise perform shady financial dealings. Another issue was technical, as a diagnostic warning appeared while the plane was under its test flight. Bombardier claimed at the press conference that this plane could easily and safely continue its flight even if it were carrying a load of passengers who the company would be held liable for. Bombardier faces a twelve-month deadline for entry of the plane into service, as well as some stiff competition with the rivals Airbus and Boeing. Despite technical and safety concerns, chief test pilot Ellis of Bombardier claims that it was a very nice plane and that there were no difficulties.
