United States Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) announced this week that the state of Rhode Island will receive $701,363 from the Department of Labor in an effort to help those on unemployment insurance, according to insurancenewsnet.com.

The state will use the funds to expand the unemployment services offered to residents of the state so it can offer in-person assessments that will aid residents find their strengths in the workforce. The funding will also help the state find residents referrals for training and re-employment services.

According to insurancenewsnet.com, Reed said, “This federal funding will help more people find work and reduce the amount of time it takes Rhode Islanders who’ve been laid off to find a new job. Congress needs to do everything it can to work together and help create jobs and get our nation back to full employment. These federal workforce development funds will ensure job seekers can get personalized employment and training services through their local career center. We need to improve collaboration between our schools, businesses, and job training centers so these programs are aligned with current job market conditions and we can better prepare more workers for in-demand jobs.”

Residents who are assessed will go through an eligibility review, the creation of a re-employment plan for beneficiaries, a provision of labor market information and referrals to services or training for re-employment.
