It was announced on Monday that Deloitte Consulting LLP will open a new tech center in Lake Mary, Florida, creating some 1,000 high-salaried jobs, according to The Orlando Sentinel.

“This is one of the biggest economic development announcements that the city has seen recently,” said Tom Tomerlin, Lake Mary’s economic-development manager. “They are a worldwide brand, and these are high-valued folks that they plan to hire.”

The average salary for the new jobs at Deloitte will be $60,520 per year. This is $20,000 more than the average annual salary in Seminole County.

Seminole County and Lake Mary will vote on a proposed incentives package that could total $1.7 million that was created to bring Deloitte to the area.

The deal reportedly consists of Lake Mary and Seminole County each offering $850,000 to the company so long as it creates 200 jobs by the end of 2015 and another 800 by the end of 2018.

Deloitte will put its delivery center headquarters at an office building on International Parkway. It will spend some $24.6 million to renovate the building. A 10-year lease on the building has already been signed by Deloitte, which has begun hiring.

Casey Barnes is the vice president of business development for the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission. Barnes said, “They were impressed with the talent that is coming out of UCF and other colleges. That was a very key driver.”

Roughly 50 current employees will be moved to the Lake Mary location from other areas in the country. City officials said that the remaining jobs will be filled by local employees.

Bert Naquin will work as the director of the center. Naquin said the following in a release by the company:

“Access to skilled workers — especially in areas such as business HR [human resources], IT [information technology] and systems engineering — and proximity to well-respected educational institutions make the Orlando area an optimal location for our delivery center,” Naquin said.

John Horan, a Seminole County Commissioner, said, “The bottom line is businesses like Deloitte and Verizon are coming to Seminole County because they want to share the same high quality of life that we enjoy here: Our quality of schools, our low taxes, our great trails. This is something that our region should be proud of.”

There are 57,000 employees of Deloitte and its subsidiaries across the country. The firm offers tax, financial, risk management and professional consulting services to clients. The company already has five locations in the state of Florida employing 877 people.
