Summary: As you prepare for a job interview, you should make note of which colors are good to wear and which are not when attending the interview.

Preparing for a job interview must be done in order to impress the hiring manager, but you also need to dress for success. The outfit you choose can either impress the hiring manager or turn him or her off from bringing you on as an employee. In this post we will discuss the best and worst colors on clothing for a job interview. Before your next job interview, be sure to put a little more thought into your outfit. It could mean the difference between a job offer and a continued job search.

The Best Colors

Some of the best colors to wear during a job interview include blue and black. The reason that these two colors are strong is that they are not overwhelming or eye-popping. They also tend to make employers think that the candidate wearing the color is a leader or a team player.

Other strong colors to wear during a job interview include gray, white and brown. Gray gives off the impression that you are an analytical or logical person. White portrays you as organized and brown shows you are dependable.

If you really want to make a name for yourself, consider wearing clothing that has the color red in it. The reason for this is that employers view this color as a color of power. It can show the employer that you will be a powerful worker or leader if offered the job.

The Worst Colors

Colors that you might want to avoid wearing to a job interview include yellow, green, orange and purple. Wearing these colors will not mean an automatic disqualification from the competition, but you might see your resume go to the bottom of the pile. On the other hand, these colors are viewed as creative. Depending on the type of job for which you are applying, you might be able to get away with wearing one of these colors during a job interview.

Your Outfit Must be Pristine

Prior to going on a job interview, pay attention to all of the details of your outfit. It must be pristine. This includes recently polished shoes, wrinkle-free pants and shirt and recently manicured nails. You do not want to walk into a job interview with dirty fingernails, wrinkles in your suit or stains on your shoes. This will send a very bad message to the employer.

Dress for the Job you Want

An excellent tip for job seekers is that you should always dress for the job you want. This does not mean showing up dressed in casual attire for the job interview, but in attire that would be worn if you were offered the job. For example, if you are interviewing at a company where the employees routinely wear shorts and sandals, do not come dressed in a suit. Instead, dress casually for the interview.
