It is a long day at home when you are used to going to work every day. You can only watch so much TV (and daytime TV is really bad.) Here are some suggestions of things you can do while you are looking for work.

Spend some time and write your resume. Maybe you have not been in the job market for years, and you have to sharpen your resume.

Sharpen your skills: Now is the time to attend some classes at the Adult Education Center in town, or the nearby college or school. You can learn Spanish or learn some computer skills. All of these will heighten your chances to find a job, especially if you were in manufacturing and want to change occupation, learn something further in your area of expertise.

Learn to cook: Eating at home is more economical than going out to eat, especially without a job. Learn to make up some appetizing meals at home.

Exercise: Don’t become a couch potato. Jog in the neighborhood. Walk the dog. Get out of the house and exercise in some way. Many towns have walking tracks or bike trails. Use them and keep yourself in good physical shape. If you never were in good shape, now is the time to work on that.

Clean out the garage or the room in the house, that needs it. Make yourself some extra coins by conducting a garage sale. Make This Yard Sale the Best Ever. You can make some extra spending money by doing this.

Plant a garden, if it is the right time of the year. Homegrown vegetables save money for the entire family.

Read books to increase your knowledge. Fiction books are good, but reading educational books can increase your expertise and also keep your mind active.

Read the newspaper, and not just the want ads. Keep abreast of what is happening in your community. Keep your mind active.
