Layoffs planned over waste delay

Mayor Ashley Swearengin said today that City Manager Mark Scott will implement a deeper layoff plan over the next two weeks to deal with the financial challenges the city will face due to a delay in privatizing residential solid waste. The mayor?s comments were in response to findings by the Fresno County Clerk and City Clerk that city unions had collected enough signatures to force the privatization issue back to the city council to decide whether it will be taken to the ballot.
