• Posting on Multiple Sites: There is a general misunderstood feeling amongst the group of job seekers is the myth that more the number of job sites they post their resume on, the better are their chances of receiving a job call. If only linear mathematical permutation and combinations were so simple, you could be sitting with more than a dozen jobs in your hands. Unfortunately, it is not so simple as it might seem. True, that to a certain extent there is a chance that you stand a better chance to get jobs but there is a limit to that.
By posting on multiple sites you’re in fact labeling your resume as spam (or potential spam!). When job search websites find multiple resumes of the same kind, they tend to reject such applications even though they might be under different user names. This is an effort to counter the proliferation of spam. Whatever it is, in case you’re ignorant about this, you even stand a chance to have your resume deleted from the site(s) you posted on!
• Posting resume online with a bland appeal: Your CV is the first impression that your employer gets about you. You need to sound professional and your resume must have a business and formal outlook, but with subtle ingredients of attraction in it. Employers seem to be a little biased about the kind of resume they receive. It therefore goes without saying that a very ‘simple’ CV holds the same value as an ordinary resume. If you can impress your employers with just your resume, there is nothing better than that!
• Weekend Getaways: Employers take their holidays seriously! And you should too! The main point that is being tried to be highlighted here is that you must not send mails (resumes and applications) on a weekend. It is highly possible that your mail stands a chance to be trashed by your employer who seeks to lighten his mail inbox on a Monday morning while clearing out the spam mail! Yes, employers do flush out their inbox quite often as they tend to get hundreds of emails, reading through all of which is impossible for busy people like them.
For the best results, mail your application on Mondays or even any weekday which is a working day for the company.
• Attractive Attachments: Big attachments are a let-down. Try to carry them to your interview when required. Do not uselessly jam/clog the bandwidth and servers of the online job website.
• Online Socializing: Forget inhibitions about online socializing; maintaining one online profile has become a must for getting a good job. It is profile that defines you and helps your employer know you better!
