Nearly 200 Nassau County workers will be axed and more than 100 police officers will be redeployed, saving $32 million as a part of a plan to close a $176 million deficit, county officials said Monday. One-hundred and thirty county employees will receive pink slips July 1 if the Nassau legislature green lights the move, while 54 employees signed up for early retirement incentives. In addition, 109 Nassau police officers, 19 police supervisors and 38 civilian police employees were redeployed effective immediately in an effort to consolidate administrative functions and free up more patrol units. And more layoffs are expected before the end of the year.
