A $20 million borrowing plan designed to reduce more than 700 school layoffs on July 1 appear to be dead. Mayor Phil Amicone announced his withdrawal of support for the plan since Yonkers Federation of Teachers meeting produced no wage concessions. Mayor said that he would only support with one-shot emergency money for the Board of Education on the condition that each of the school district’s unions shared in the sacrifices to save jobs and programs. Teacher Union accused Amicone of exaggerating the savings that can be achieved through teacher concessions and negotiating in bad faith.
