1. Information on Resume: The kind and amount of information you’re giving on your resume also determines the reach of your resume. For example, if you’re low on experience and high on modifying words and transforming them into sentences, your resume has a pretty slim chance to filter through the clog of thousands of resumes to the employer. More the number of attachments and more bulky the resume (according to the job), lesser are your chances of getting a call from an employer.

2. Resume Matching: How often do you update and format your resume? If the answer to that question was rarely, you need to get into the groove immediately. No two jobs are the same (better in case of the same job in different companies) and hence there is absolutely no reason as to why your CV should be the same. When applying for a same job in different companies, make sure that you have the option of modifying the resume to suit that company. For online resume postings, a good and short resume will work wonders for you.

3. Website Selection: Most people post their website on hundreds of job search websites! The very notion that it might click is wrong! The internet has become selective today owing to the growing amount of redundant articles and spam. Your resume on more than 10 job search sites? Be assured that it won’t make through or better still, will be deleted! Choose from the top of the heap and some good local job search sites.

4. E-mail Address: When you apply for a job, your employer expects professional conduct from you. Therefore fun and awkward email names surely work against you. Make sure you have a simple and professional e-mail address rather than the one you used for downloading ‘stuff’ off the internet!

5. Working on Weekdays: Ideally, you should keep all your correspondences for the weekdays so that the application reaches the employer on a working day. It is usual for top bosses to delete their flooding inbox with job applications that may have accumulated over the weekend holiday!

6. Power of Social Media: Never underestimate the power of social networking. These sites are today used for doing background checks on prospective candidates by their employers! So you might need some profile formatting as well!

7. Precise Writing: Remember when they taught you precise writing at school? Use your previously learnt precise writing skills to draft your resume in such a manner that will help filter your resume and application faster and thus reaching the employer before others!
