After 7,000 Layoffs, More Job Cuts Expected at Motorola
Post Views 0After eliminating 4,000 jobs, embattled telecommunications equipment maker Motorola may need further cuts to survive.
“They are still way too overstaffed,” analyst Bill Choi tells Dow Jones. “What you really need is a combination of cost reductions and a meaningful improvement in the portfolio.”
Company spokepersons won’t speculate on further job cuts.
In the past three months, Motorola announced 7,000 job cuts; with 5,000 coming from the mobile devices division, a 25% reduction in the unit. The company still has roughly 20,000 employees in its mobile handset business.
Sony Ericsson, which sells slightly more handsets than Motorola, employs 9,400, but still wants to cut 2,000 workers.
