macombcountylogo14 employees belonging to the United Auto Workers Union in Macomb County may be getting the axe in an attempt for the county to save a annual $820,000.

This week, the local divisions of the UAW are re going to be re-voting on a contract which would implement wage freezes, six days without pay, pension reforms as well as higher costs for health care.

Late last month, the UAW voted against the contract.

Commissioners in Macomb County claim that the layoffs might be necessary come July, even with the new contracts. This year, they say, there is a $18 million deficit, as well as a $11 million gap in the budget for next year.

The county is hoping that these new contracts will save them $10 million per year.
