Union Approves Lexington Herald-Leader Cuts
Post Views 0The Lexington Newspaper Guild has signed off on a plan to lay off 14 union newsroom jobs at the Lexington, Kentucky Herald-Leader.
Union members agreed last night to a 5% wage cut for all Guild workers making more than $25,000 and less than $100,000 a year.
The cuts are part of restructuring by parent company, McClatchy, which is slashing its work force by 1,600, or 15%.
The proposal also provides for a one-week unpaid furlough for union employees.
The union accepted the plan, to save some union jobs. Around 75 full- and part-time Herald-Leader employees are covered by the union.
