Florida Town Chooses Taxes Over Layoffs

The Naples, Florida City Council will raise taxes on property for 2010, rather than lay off more workers.

As property values fall, the city must raise the tax rate to generate the same amount of income.

The city is also planning unpaid days off, and salary & benefit reductions. Some 19 full-time workers will still be laid off.
