Seattle to Cut 59 City Jobs

Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels will eliminate 59 city positions to help close a $43 million budget gap.

Nickels will cut $13.3 million from the city’s 2009 general fund budget, and furlough some professional staffers in various departments.

In March the mayor froze 100 senior city executives’ salaries. Certain city employees will have to take at least a week off without pay.
