Hewlett-Packard to Shut Plants, Cut 700 Positions

Hewlett-PackardPalo Alto, California’s Hewlett-Packard will cut 700 out of 1,300 manufacturing jobs in Erskine near Glasgow, Scotland.

The company is shuttering manufacturing operations in Scotland and Germany, and transferring the work to the Czech Republic.

HP has run the former Compaq plant in Erskine since 2002. Most of the remaining workers are actually employed by outside agencies.

Scottish legislators are angry that HP is laying off workers after making a profit last year.

The Hewlett-Packard Company is a technology corporation headquartered in Palo Alto, California. HP is the largest technology company in the world and operates in nearly every country. HP specializes in developing and manufacturing computing, storage, and networking hardware, software and services.
