Westchester Journal News to Fire Everyone, Rehire Some

journalnews_160x120The Journal News, the Westchester, New York newspaper owned by Gannett, has informed all 288 of its news and advertising sales employees that their jobs will be eliminated.

Those affected have until the end of this week to apply for the 218 jobs the paper will keep. Overall, 20 jobs are being cut in ad sales, and 50 in the newsroom.

Last week, the paper laid off 57 workers in production, finance, and IT.

Founded in 1852, The Journal News is a newspaper in New York serving the suburban New York City counties of Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam, a region known as the Lower Hudson Valley.
