Another IBM Layoff Round

The Alliance, a union attempting to organize IBM workers, has reported that 1,614 employees were laid off on Monday.

The union predicts this number will climb to 2,000 in the U.S. and Canada after this round of layoffs is complete. Corporate policy dictates that no comments about these losses are to be made, however a running tally of layoffs can be found on the Alliance‘s website.

10,000 people are employed by the technology giant, and last year 10,400 employees were laid off in North America, more than its current work force.

The Alliance is a New York-based organization that was formed in 1999 and fights for communications workers across America.
