Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake released a budget proposal Wednesday that stands to cut more than 600 city employees, including 120 police officers and 90 fire fighters.

The Maryland city is looking at a budget deficit of $121 million, and this initial proposal would balance the offset. Fortunately, it is not expected to be adopted in its present form, a revised budget being planned for April 12 which is to include $50 million in new revenue.

Although the new revenue stream was not identified by the mayor, city leaders have previously discussed several options, including new taxes on nonprofits, a bottle tax, and higher parking and ambulance fees.
