The Montgomery County Board of Education in Alabama unanimously approved a plan to cut 46 positions, which includes principals, teachers, bus drivers and a whole range of support staff.

School employees affected by the cuts were to be notified Monday, Board attorney Ramadanah Jones told the Montgomery Advertiser.

According to the report, more cuts are expected to follow. Superintendent Barbara Thompson said she plans to recommend cutting $2 million in tenured staff positions later this year in an effort to close the district’s $18 million budget deficit.
