Pilgrim’s Pride Closing Corporate Offices; 213 Jobs Eliminated

Chicken producer Pilgrim’s Pride Corp is cutting 213 jobs through the closure of its corporate offices in Texas and Georgia.

Pilgrim’s Pride is in the process of consolidating its operations with JBS USA, which purchased the company out of bankruptcy last year to become the world’s largest chicken producer, the Associated Press reports.

Pilgrim’s Pride said 158 employees will be affected through the closure of its corporate headquarters in Pittsburg, Texas, and another 55 workers will be laid off at its satellite facility in suburban Atlanta. The offices are slated to close during the next 60 days. Almost all corporate functions for the company will be moved to JBS USA’s headquarters in Greeley, Colo.

JBS SA is a Brazilian beef producer. Pilgrim’s chicken production will not be affected by the layoff, the company said.
