LAS VEGAS – In an unexpected move, Clark County Commissioners on Monday passed a 2011 budget that does not include any layoffs. The county will instead use money from its emergency fund to cover the salaries of its employees. Over 400 layoffs had been recommended.

“We can keep going on and on move money from one fund to another,” commented Commissioner Steve Sisolak, who cast the Commission’s only dissenting vote, “but truth be known we’re going to come to the point where the money just won’t balance and I think that’s something that’s coming sooner rather than later.”

Clark County’s budget woes should not be confused with those of the city of Las Vegas, which is still expected to lay off approximately 200 city workers when it passes its 2011 budget.
