Bloomberg:  The chocolate legend Hershey could cut anywhere from 500 to 600 jobs from its world famous Chocolate Avenue plant in Hershey, Pennsylvania.  The company has plans to convert the plant to office space.

The layoffs are part of Hershey plans to increase cost and represent almost five percent of the company’s current work force.  Such shake ups at the chocolatier have been common in the last several years.  The company has closed seven U.S. plants and has commenced operations in a facility in Mexico.

According to a spokesperson cited in the post, the plant slated for closing, founder Milton Hershey’s first, is antiquated and extremely inefficient.  However, the company will not proceed with plans until union approval.
