The Associated Press is reporting the Volusia County School District in Florida is eliminating about 450 jobs because of a reduction in funding.

The cuts are slated to include guidance counselors, assistant principals and teachers’ aides. According to the report, declining enrollment as well as property values coupled with rising cuts led to the eliminations.

Since 2007, the Volusia County school board has eliminated more than 1,200 jobs.

The news from Volusia County falls right in line with what’s been happening across the country, the AP notes. According to the Department of Education, as many as 300,000 positions could be lost by the fall.
