Bloomberg: The nation’s largest land-based oil driller, Halliburton, added 1,700 jobs in the last three months.  The boom is the direct result of production shut down in the gulf.  The company added an additional 1,200 jobs in the first three months of the year.

According to the piece, Halliburton’s active onshore rig numbers in the states jumped 76 percent from a year ago to a 17-month high.  Following the Deepwater Horizon disaster, oil producers have increasingly targeted oil and natural-gas deposits trapped in what are traditionally difficult to reach areas.  One analyst cited, said “[i]t’s Halliburton’s ability obviously to work in that high end of the market segment that’s creating this opportunity.”
