borders_160x120Borders Group is laying off an additional 100 workers at its distribution facility in LaVergne, Tenn. The cuts are on top of 120 jobs that were eliminated at the plant earlier this year, the Nashville Business Journal reports.

According to the story, Borders reported a loss of $64.1 million in the quarter ended May 1. The bookseller has struggled to ride out the recession, along with increased competition from the likes of Amazon.com and e-reader’s such as Amazon’s Kindle and Apple’s iPad.

“We are in the process of reorganizing core areas of our business around key strategic objectives to transform the Borders brand,” Borders spokeswoman Mary Davis told the Business Journal in an e-mail. “As part of this effort, we are making changes to our staffing levels to make sure the right people are in the right spots and positions and resources are aligned with our strategic objectives.”

Borders has more than 700 stores and is headquartered in Ann Arbor, Mich.
