Up to 65 city-worker positions are poised to be cut in Wichita, Kans. The city council approved a $519 million budget proposal Tuesday that would eliminate administrative positions, largely through the consolidation of its water and public works departments.

According to the Wichita Business Journal, additional cuts would include reducing staff for services that have reduced demand because of the recession, four school resource officers as well as a few office positions in the police department.

Wichita is facing a budget shortfall because of declining revenues and increases in health care, pension and other costs.
