Obama Signs Jobs Bill

It’s official. After stalling for months in the Senate, a $26 billion federal aid bill was today signed into law by President Obama. The Bill includes $10 billion that is designed almost exclusively to save the jobs of teachers who would otherwise have been laid off by cash-strapped school districts in dozens of states.

Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said that the money could be in the hands of individual school districts within “a matter of weeks.” Duncan also warned that the bill would not undo all teacher layoffs: “There’s still unmet need out there. “Many folks will still have to make tough decisions.”
