Pratt & Whitney Cutting Jobs in Connecticut
Post Views 0Jet engine maker Pratt & Whitney is laying off a 129 hourly workers–nearly a quarter of its work force–at its repair plant in Connecticut, the Associated Press reports.
The cuts, which are the result of a decline in business, will reduce the staff at the plant in southwest Hartford from 520 to 391.
The workers’ union told the AP the jobs could still be saved. Potential remedies include furloughs and reducing overtime. According to the report, the International Association of Machinists union has already twice in federal court stopped effort by Pratt & Whitney to move jobs from the repair plant to out of state.
Pratt & Whitney is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp.
