This week home appliance giant Whirlpool, who employs nearly 67,000 worldwide, revealed that more layoffs were imminent. Employees were given warning about the layoffs in late 2009, though they will not be official until October.

Whirlpool did not give an exact number for this round of layoffs. The company shut down a plant in Michigan earlier in the year, which cost 216 employees their jobs. The Michigan plant, whose closure will be finalized by late 2010 or early 2011, wil see its operations moved to a plant in Ohio.

In addition to the closing of the Michigan plant and the October layoffs, more seasonal layoffs are to be expected in November, a time when demand is usually slower.
